4th of July Dresses

I cannot tell you how excited I was when I realized the 4th was on a Sunday this year!  4 little girls were in need of some fun, festive dresses!
But I wanted to come up with something that wouldn't cost a lot of money (after all, I still have a lot of Easter, Christmas, Prom, and Wedding dresses in my future!)

So I went to my box of fabric scraps and old clothes that were crying out for a pick-me-up...

A skirt that won't stay up on Dakota

Overalls that won't stay snapped for Cheyenne & Cassidy

And a shirt that was given to Mommy, but just didn't fit right

For Cassy's dress, I cut off the legs and sewed a piece of the shirt to the bottom

If I have enough scraps left, I am going to sew some ruffles to the bum of a onesie.

For Chey's, I was going to do the same thing, but after cutting out everyone else's dresses, I didn't have a long enough strip.  So I took a white shirt, cut some squares up, sewed the squares with some of the red shirt, and made this:

(Don't tell the other kids, but I think this is my favorite!)

For Charly's, I just took one of her dresses, traced around it, and cut it out.

I free handed the pockets out of the legs from Cassy's overalls.  Those are the snaps from the legs.

I used some fasteners from another pair of well used overalls to make suspenders for Dakota's dress.

I was too excited to wait for the white shirts to be done in the wash, so I will post pictures of them in the dresses later.

Oh!  I almost forgot!  I made my nephew a little bow tie while I was at it!

How cute is that!

Now I just have to make so cute hair pretties to go with them...

Father's Day {Grandpa's Gift}

I hope you enjoyed the Father's Day gifts.  Here's a couple shots of what we made for Grandpa...

It's just an ice cream bucket.  I covered the lid with scrapbook paper and did the girls' hand prints around the container.

We filled it with some of Grandpa's favorite handmade cookies.

Father's Day

Being the procrastinator that I am, I did not get these done in time to post them BEFORE Father's Day, but I still wanted to share our little creations.

Each of the four girls gave Daddy a card with a funny little inside joke, so to speak, that incorporated one of his favorite candy bars...

"I will try not to make c-reeses in your pillow tonight..."

Because she has been waking up in the middle of the night and ending up in our bed.  He hates creases in his pillowcase!

"I will try no to have butterfingers when I get your cold drinks from your room..."

We have a small fridge in our room upstairs that we keep soda in.  Chey has taken it upon herself to be the drink runner.  But more often than not, she ends up dropping it on the way down the stairs!

"I will let you enjoy this treat without asking for some..."

As with most little kids, Charly hates to see anyone eating a treat without asking for a bite!

**Before she gave him the card, I had to remind her not to ask.  I even had to go so far as bribe her with her own special treat!**

"I will try not to snicker when I beat you at Wii Golf..."

Daddy is good, but Kota can beat him.  She loves it!  We're working on being gracious winners and losers!

The cards were made out of soda can boxes that I covered with scrapbook paper.  I just hot glued the candy bars on.

They were both full of his favorite movie-watching-snacks and a movie.

He was pretty Stoked.

Got a Minute? #3

I told you I would have more Patriotic stuff coming!

Here's another wreath.  This one hangs on the inside of my front door.

This one took even less time than the star shaped one.

I took some bandanna patterned ribbon ($.25/yd at the Provo Craft store clearance) and wrapped it around a Dollar Tree wreath.  I secured it with a push pin. I then wrapped a strand of jute around the wreath.

The ribbon was wired, so I simply pulled the wire out of one side until it  formed a full circle.  I pinned the circle to the wreath and then pinned the red tulle to the center of the circle.  I hot glued some jute to the center of the tulle, and there you have it!  Once again, I used a magnet to secure it to the door.

I sometimes walk to my front door, just to look at it!

I'm lovin' it!

Got a Minute? #2

Welcome to the second installment of Got a Minute?


Today is all about the upcoming summer holidays.
In honor of Flag Day, Independence Day, and Pioneer Day, I give you this:

I simply bent a metal hanger into the shape of a star, covered it with white ribbon, then hot glued red, white, and blue pom poms to the ribbon.  I glued a magnet to the back to attach it my metal door.

Very simple and festive.

Anyone that knows me will attest to my love for all things Americana, so don't be surprised to see many more patriotic themed crafts to come!

Got a Minute? #1

Welcome to the first edition of Got a Minute?

I'm excited for this new segment because I love to come up with crafts that only take a few minutes.  With four little girls, it is easier to do little projects that I can squeeze into my few free moments during the day.

For the first project, I made something that has saved me a few minutes (and a few headaches) because I no longer have to try to remember whose turn it is to do the things that my girls are always fighting over.

I call it:

My Turn!

It was so easy and it really only took me a few minutes to put together!

I used:

Scrapbook paper

Scrapbook sticker letters

Chipboard flowers

Brad

I chose 4 categories that my 4 girls are always fighting over:

Cooking

Crafting

Cleaning

Prayer

I cut out four graduating sized circles in coordinating scrapbook paper.  Split the circles into 4. On the green circle I put each of the girls names.  On the larger dotted paper I put the four categories.  I decorated it with a title, lined up the circles, and pushed the brad through the middle.  To hang it, I glued a piece of chipboard to a magnet.

Each morning I turn the name circle so that the girls know what they get a turn at that day.  They love it!  And I don't have to listen to, "It's my turn!" anymore!  Yay!

Fun in the Sun

Summer weather is finally here!  After skipping spring, we are happy to be burning some energy outside!

So to make things a little educational and physical, we broke out the sidewalk chalk and drew several different colored shapes on the driveway.

My four year old is pretty sensitive to loosing right now, so we changed the game to just running to the shape that is called out.  No eliminations, no winner, no looser.  Just a good time had by all!

And a great way to get some education and exercise on a sunny day!
