Whatcha Got Cookin': Pizza Rolls

Looking for something fun and tasty for dinner that your kids will love?
Well look no further!
(Wow, that sounds like an infomercial!)
Anway, these pizza rolls are tasty and portable.
They are yummy hot from the oven, or baked ahead for a picnic.

First, you need a good pizza dough.

Dough
1 c. warm water
1 pkg. yeast
1/2 tsp. sugar
3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt

Combine warm water, yeast, and sugar.  Let stand 10 minutes.  Add salt and 3 c. flour.  Mix and knead together.  Grease bowl and let dough rise for about 1 hr.

Punch dough down and remove from bowl.  Let dough rest for 10 minutes, covered, on the counter.

While the dough rests, combine ingredients for sauce.

Pizza Sauce
1 (8 oz.) can Tomato Sauce
1 tsp. Italian seasoning
1/2 to 1 tsp. garlic powder
*This will cover 2 or 3 batches of above dough.

Roll dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
Spread sauce to the edge of all but one of the long sides.
Leave about 1 inch on this long side.
Cover with cheese
And preferred pizza toppings
I like the mini pepperonis because they are easier to cut.
Now start rolling toward the side without toppings.
I find it easier to kind of fold it over than try to roll.
That way you aren't squishing all the toppings out.
When you get to the edge of your toppings, fold the dough up, and pinch it to your roll.
Cut in about 1 inch thick slices.
It is easiest to do this with a large knife because of the pepperoni.
It squishes them a little, but you can reshape them a little on the pan.
Place them on a greased cookie sheet and let rise for about another hour.
Place the pan in a cold oven.
Turn the oven on to 350 degrees and bake for 15-20 minutes or until slightly browned.
These are great on their own
or with a little ranch for dipping.
They are also great to switch things up in your kids or hubbies lunch box!

  4. Thanks for commenting on my blog:) These look so yummy! I tried a different recipe that used crescent rolls instead of pizza dough, but they didn't taste that good. I am super excited to try these, because they look like the ones I had in high school.
